Anthony P. Giglio Named Knight of the Month for May 2020


This Brother is an Honorary Life Member. He has 52 continuous years of service as a Third Degree Member and 24 years of service as a Sir Knight of the Fourth Degree He still has every membership card he was issued. He was a member of Santa Maria Council 105 in Malden, MA, where he served as the Worthy Advocate for 17 years.


He was born and raised in Portland Maine until he moved to Malden at the age of 15. After graduation from Malden High School in 1959, he joined the U.S. Air Force and became a Radio Operator, monitoring Radio Transmissions in Istanbul, Turkey. When he left the Air Force, he was at Vandenburg Air Force Base in California where they launch intercontinental ballistic missiles.


He returned home to Malden, where he met and married Mary Ruth Surette from Yarmouth Nova Scotia, Canada. For thirty years, he and Mary ran their own business (Anthony's Liquor Mart) and were active in various business organizations. He served as CEO of the Medford Boys and Girls Club for 6 years.


He also served as the Massachusetts State Representative for the 38th District in Malden from 1988 through 2000, when he retired from the political scene.


He and Mary relocated to Jupiter and joined St. Peter Catholic Church. Shortly after, he transferred his Knights of Columbus memberships to St. Peter Council 13139 and the John Paul II Assembly 3299. He serves as an usher at the 11:00 Mass at St. Peter.


He has served in many volunteer positions outside the Knights of Columbus and has been a member of the Kiwanis International Club for the past 33 years. He has served as President of Jupiter/Tequesta Kiwanis Club for the last four years.


He and Mary have two married sons: Joseph Anthony Giglio and Anthony P. Giglio Jr. Joseph and his wife Catlin live in Yarmouth where Mary Ruth is from. They have a granddaughter, born in 2018 to Tony Jr. and his wife Bernadette in California.


Before the recent limitations, initiated due to the pandemic, Tony worked the concession stand at Roger Dean Stadium with the other members of the Council. He faithfully showed up to assist his brothers; making this effort a very successful fundraiser to support the Council’s many charities. For his services to his community, his parish, and the Knights of Columbus, the Council selects Anthony Giglio as its Knight of the Month for May 2020. Congratulations, Anthony!


His award will be presented at an upcoming Council Regular Business Meeting once the pandemic restrictions are lifted.
