Business (General) Meeting

March 19, 2019

Note: Minutes of our Business Meetings are supplied to all members of the council for review and comment. The minutes will not be read at the next regular meeting unless requested by a member. Please direct all corrections and additions to Jim Hildebrand jrpah@comcast.net

  • Officers Roll Call

  • All Officers were present except for the 3rd Year Trustee who was absent.

  • Chaplain Report - The meeting was opened and adjourned with a prayer

  • Guests and Dignitaries

  • The District Deputy and Field Agent were present.

  • Guests -

  • Mark and Norma Reyes-Gallagher received the “Family of the Month” award for February. Norma chairs the parish St. Vincent de Paul society and give a recent example of the society’s work in which a homeless family with 5 children was relocated from living in their car.

  • Representatives from the Hispanic Community asked for Council Support in obtaining parish approval to build a permanent monument to “Our Lady of Guadalupe” . A motion passed to support the effort (see motions). We will discuss the project with Father Don at our schedule yearly meeting in April. We also mentioned that we would like to work towards having Catholic men from the Hispanic community as part of the council.

  • Grand Knight Report:

  • We are continuing our search for a GK for the next fraternal year. We are also looking for a DGK to complete this years fraternal year. The elected DGK is leaving the area.

  • Father Don’s 25 Year Ordination Anniversary Party is May 18. We have been asked to supply beer and wine. The party is planned for 150 people.

  • Treasurers Report:

  • ~$16,793 in the Treasury

  • Deputy Grand Knight and Director Reports:

  • Faith*:

  • Altar Server Recognition - No servers have applied for our scholarships. We will make one final appeal. Also, the Deacon for the Servers indicates that no server stands out as a candidate for special recognition.

  • Before Mass Rosary -

  • Buffet Breakfast - Next Breakfast is April 7th. It appears the church is not being remodeled until next year so our regular schedule will apply for this summer.

  • Council Picnic - We are considering a Dolphins Game bus trip in place of the picnic. Brother Davisson is looking into game availability.

  • Third Degree -

  • Life*:

  • “Miracle House” is looking for a group to support their “Baby Bottle” drive at St Peter. We are interested, but don’t have the time this year.

  • We plan to ask both “Hannah’s House” and “Miracle House” to present at a future meeting so we can better understand the work that they do.

  • Community*-

  • Tootsie Roll Drive - Walmart and Public have approved the weekend of 4/27&28 for the Tootsie Roll drive. Walmart will be from 9:30 to 4, Publix from 10 to 3. The chairman plans to activate the calling committee to get volunteers. He also plans to ask those that can’t help to make a $10 voluntary contribution to the cause.

  • Fund Raising -

  • Roger Dean Stadium - This Thursday we work a Yankee’s day game. It is a sellout and is expected to be very busy. There is also a game the following Sunday.

  • Coastal Fest - April 6th. We will probably buy extra beer and wine fo use at Father D’s party.

  • 4th Degree Report -

  • District Deputy Report -

  • Upcoming Honor Flight dates are 4/11 and 5/11.

  • We are applying for 4 awards at the state convention based on our work with 1) Food for Families, 2) Family Week, 3) Lady of Guadalupe celebration support, 4) Novena for life.

  • Supreme is testing a new recruiting program in our area, Brother Manz will see how we can use its.

  • Field Agent Report -

  • When recruiting new members, 4 important KofC values to emphasize are: 1) We try to use our Faith to make ourselves better people (Husbands, Fathers etc), 2) We serve others, 3) we defend our religious values, 4) we protect our families.

  • Old Business -

  • New Business -

  • It was suggested that the council support the parish “Mercy Bag” project with either a cash donation or a contribution of needed items that we would purchase. Discussion resulted in concern that a lot of the bags get thrown out by recipients and not used. No action was taken.

  • Motions -

  • Motion - Brother Manz moved and Brother Davisson seconded a motion to support the Hispanic Community in their effort to build a permanent monument to “Our Lady of Guadalupe”. Passed
