The St Peter Knights are recognizing the family of Steve and Michelle Lomicka as Family of the Month.
It all began with a chance meeting in a restaurant in Arlington, VA where Michelle and Steve were there to watch a Brazilian soccer game. Thanks to a friendly encounter over a foosball game, their future was set.
In 2012, Steve and Michelle’s determination and the desire to be closer to family propelled them into a new adventure – one that would shape their future in unexpected ways. With Steve’s parents living in Naples, and a job opportunity in banking in West Palm for Steve, the family patriarch, the Lomicka family moved to Jupiter from the Washington DC area.
Michelle, the family matriarch, brought her Brazilian heritage to Jupiter. As a dental hygienist, she quickly found her place in the local healthcare community. Her warmth and cultural richness added vibrancy to their household, creating a unique blend of traditions from here and abroad.
Their three children, Will, Caitlin, and Bella, each have embarked on their own paths. Will, a sophomore at Florida Atlantic University, studies business and enjoys pickup basketball games and cheering on the FAU Owls basketball and football teams.
Caitlin, having just graduated from Jupiter HS, looks forward to attending the University of Florida in the fall, with dreams of eventually going to law school. Her passion for justice and determination will undoubtedly propel her forward.
Bella, the youngest, attends Jupiter Middle School with curiosity and wonder. Her youthful spirit and the support of her family shaped her journey, as she discovered hidden talents like piano and tennis.
The Lomicka family’s love for travel took them to various destinations. Brazil, with its smooth sand beaches, samba rhythms, and vast extended family, beckons them often. Caribbean cruises offered turquoise waters, island hopping, and rich memories. And then there is Disney World—an annual pilgrimage where dreams come alive, regardless of age.
But their journey extended beyond leisure. Faith served as their anchor. Whether attending local religious gatherings, praying together at home, or finding faith in quiet moments, their spiritual bond strengthened their resolve.
Community service became an integral part of their lives. Whether participating in beach cleanups, assembling meals for the needy, or collaborating with the Knights of Columbus at All Saints, the act of service nourishes their souls and allows the family to be part of a community. This is how Steve became aware of the Knights by virtue of his children attending All Saints. Their commitment to giving back extends all the way to Brazil, where they support Michelle’s grandmother’s soup kitchen, a place that provides nourishment for those in need including an annual Christmas basket.
And so, they plan to remain in Jupiter for many more years, a place where dreams took root, friendships continue to blossom, and the warmth of the sun kisses their cheeks.
The St Peter Knights and fellow parishioners are most fortunate that the Lomicka family found Jupiter and the St Peter parish. THANK YOU for all your contributions to the community, and congratulations on being nominated Family of the Month!
